Investing 101

Investing means the act of committing money to a project with the anticipation of gaining an additional income or return from the money. Learn more about how to invest in investment funds or stock market.

What is Investing?

Investing is about making priorities for your capital or money. Investing is all about future benefits. Investing is a means to a happier end result.

How do you Invest?

Investing smartlyIf you are ready to invest, how do you invest? There are various ways you can go about investing. You can put money into stocks, bonds, mutual funds, exchange traded funds (ETFs), closed end funds (CEFs), hedge funds, and real estate. Another way is to start your own business such as open a store or online business such as eBay or Amazon.com.

There are pros and cons for each investment vehicle. Should you invest in mutual fund or ETF? Why do you invest in this mutual fund? Who is managing the fund? Should you find out about the fund’s prospectus? What are the fees and expenses? Are there any costs or penalties for accessing your initial capital? You will need to answer all questions before making an investment.

While it is accurate there are no guarantees of making money. You will need to do your homework on your part, therefore you can increase your odds of being a successful investor. Analysis, research and even just reading up on investing can all help.

Investing in Mutual Funds

Mutual fund is one of investment vehicle made up of a pool of funds. The funds are collected from many investors for the purpose of investing in stocks, bonds, money market instruments and similar assets.

Investing in Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs)

Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) is one of investment funds which invest in stocks, bonds, commodities, money market or other funds. Most ETFs are index funds.

Closed End Fund (CEF) is one of investment funds which invest in stocks, bonds, commodities, money market or other funds. A closed-end fund is a pooled investment fund with a money manager managing the portfolio.

Investing in stocks typically involve buy and sell equities of public companies. You can purchase shares from your brokerage.
